Once Aaron had awakened, showered, and had a bit of breakfast, he and Hana decided to walk the streets around the hotel while Michael left for the British Museum and his final planning sessions with the curator there for the approaching exhibition.
Aaron and Hana soon found themselves meandering through the rain-kissed streets of Bloomsbury, their breath misting in the cool London morning. Their surroundings were beautiful in their historical charm, but it was clear their minds were preoccupied with a shared, unspoken tension.
Aaron was the first to break the silence, his voice echoing softly in the quiet street. âHana, though we havenât known each other all that long, our friendship has been built on transparency and trust. And I think itâs time we address the elephant in the room.â
Hana turned her face to him, her brows furrowed in puzzlement, but with a hint of understanding in her eyes. âOf course, Aaron. Whatâs on your mind?â
Aaron took a deep breath, steadying his nerves before he said, âIt's about Michael. You two share a special connection, I think. Itâs deeper than mere friendship, isnât it?â
There was a momentâs silence as Hana processed Aaronâs words. Her face, normally so expressive, betrayed little. But there was a flicker in her eyes, a momentary shadow that confirmed what Aaron suspected.
âHanaâ¦â Aaron began, but she interjected.
âAaron, I⦠what are you suggesting?â she asked, her voice almost a whisper.
Aaron stopped in his tracks, his gaze steady as he met Hana's. âHana, I care for you, deeply. And Michael is my best friend. But itâs clear there is⦠something unspoken between you two. Something thatâs more than friendship. I've seen the way you look at each other, the way you interact. Itâs as if thereâs a private language between the two of you.â
The silence was palpable as Hana looked away, her gaze distant. Aaron could see her wrestling with her thoughts. Finally, she met his eyes, âAaron, your observation isnât entirely off the mark,â she admitted, her voice barely a whisper. âYes, there is something between us. But weâve never really addressed it. Never given voice to it. Never truly acted on it. Heâs a priest, and I⦠well, itâs complicated.â
Aaron nodded, understanding and sympathy washing over him. âAnd yet, here we are. You and me. Weâre kind of dating.â
âYes,â Hana admitted, a rueful chuckle escaping her lips. âYes, we are. Itâs not a simple situation, is it?â
Aaron reached out and gently took her hand. She didnât pull away, but looked at him with a mixture of surprise and gratitude. âHana, itâs only a predicament if we make it one,â he said. âWe all have a history. We all have unspoken feelings and complexities. Whatâs important is that weâre honest with each other, with ourselves.â
Hana looked at him, her eyes reflecting a storm of emotionsâappreciation, guilt, and a hint of regret. âAaron, you're a remarkable man. Your understanding and honesty⦠itâs humbling. But I don't know what the next step is.â
Aaron squeezed her hand reassuringly, âMaybe itâs not about finding a solution,â he suggested.
